Bone Deep

Katherine Sheers

Opens 12th September 2-4pm

I am thrilled to welcome fellow gallerist and artist KATHERINE SHEERS to Parc Lettis for her inaugural solo exhibition.

BONE DEEP is the culmination of two years spent exploring the Jungian concept of the shadow - tracing aspects of self that are exiled due to familial or societal expectations of what it is to be a "good woman”. The works explore a raw, sensual, unapologetic darkness, and embrace the power of the unrepentant feminine.

BONE DEEP asks what becomes possible within us when seemingly contradictory states coexist. When pleasure and death belong to the same body, appetite and surrender carry equal intelligence, and tenderness and rage occupy one psychological field.

"A common interpretation of darkness seems to be that it's rooted primarily in pain, despair or emotional struggle - that the presence of shadow is essentially an indicator of suffering.

Conversely, I have found the opposite to hold true. Much of what has informed these paintings has been a profound sense of aliveness, desire and power.

There is something ecstatic and yes, also terrifying, about the experience of learning to fully inhabit oneself - the central, underlying theme of this work - and in that intense honesty, lives a complex and intoxicating freedom."
